Hi Reader! I was on a call a few months ago with someone who had been sitting on their website project for almost a year. Not because they were procrastinating. Not because they didn't care. But because every time they sat down to work on it, they hit a wall. What pages do I need? What do I say on the homepage? Why does this section feel off? How do I change fonts again? They kept starting and stopping. Life kept getting in the way. And the site sat there, not finished, not working for them. I have had a version of this conversation more times than I can count. Here's the thing: the question most people ask is "how long will this take?" But the question that actually matters is how long you are willing to have this unfinished on your plate. Because a website that is not live or is not performing is not bringing in clients. Every week it sits is a week it is not doing its job. There are three realistic paths to getting a website done, and each one asks something different from you. The DIY path with AI is the most affordable. It is also the most time-intensive, usually not because anything goes wrong but because you are learning three things at once: how to build the site, what should go on it, and what good strategy actually looks like. That last part is the piece most people skip because they do not know what they do not know. Realistically, if you go in with your content mostly ready and you are comfortable with technology, you could have a simple site done in a couple of weeks. If either of those things is not true, a month or two is completely normal. Working with a designer moves faster even though you still bring your content. The reason is that the strategy is already handled. You are not figuring out what pages you need or whether your messaging is right. That has been worked through. You are filling in a structure that is already clear, which makes a big difference in how long it actually takes. For my clients, that is a four-week build with a guaranteed launch date. The done-for-you path is the fastest and the highest investment. You show up for a few calls, a copywriter captures your voice, and the whole thing gets built and launched for you. Your time investment is small. The thinking, writing, and building is handled. I go deeper on all three in this week's episode of Website Design Made Simple, including how AI fits into each path: How Long Does It Take to Build a Website With (and Without) AI Help? [Ep 137] If you have been sitting on a website project for a while and you are not sure which direction makes sense for where you are right now, that is a great thing to think through on a quick discovery call. No pressure, just a conversation. Which of these three paths sounds most like where you are right now? You've got this, P.S. If you are going the DIY route and want a starting point, my free homepage audit tool will show you exactly what your homepage is communicating to new visitors so you know what to fix first. |
Every week you will get one (yup, just 1!) email from me, like friends chatting over coffee, that contain different website + marketing tips, updates in the industry and the occasional update on what's happening in my life. I can’t wait to get to know you better this way! ♡
