why I waited three days for a view

Hi Reader!

I recently visited the Swiss Alps with my family.

The plan was to ride the train up to Jungfraujoch, the highest point in Europe you can reach that way. My husband had been planning it for six months, and we had three possible days to make the trip up.

We picked the third day, on purpose. Same mountain, same tickets, same amount spent either way, but a completely different experience depending on whether the sky was clear.

On day three, it was perfectly clear. You could see for miles!! It. Was. Stunning.

Here's the thing. That waiting for visibility is basically the whole job of a website too. Most people think a good website is about looking nice. It isn't. It's about giving a visitor a clear view, right away, of who you are and what to do next.

Think about the last website you left within a few seconds. It probably wasn't the colors. It was the fog. You couldn't tell what the business did, who it served, or what you were supposed to do next, so you left and found somewhere else that made it obvious.

I go deeper on this in this week's episode of Website Design Made Simple, including something I have been noticing with AI built websites lately. You can listen here: Website Clarity Is Everything (And Why AI Is Making It Harder to Find) [Ep 138]

Here's what I mean by that. AI can make a website look finished in minutes now. But looking finished and being clear are two different things. A lot of AI built sites have the same vague headline and the exact same section order, no matter who the business actually serves. That isn't clarity. It's just a nicer looking version of fog.

Clarity comes from knowing your actual visitor. What they wonder about first. What makes them hesitate. What they need to see before they'll trust you enough to reach out. No tool can hand you that. It comes from paying attention to your real clients.

If you have a few minutes this week, pull up your homepage and read it like a stranger would. See if you can tell, within a few seconds, what you do and what to do next. If it takes longer than that to figure out, that's worth a closer look together.

You've got this,

P.S. I would not have picked day three on my own. My husband gets full credit for that one.
