Helllo my friend!!! So… I need to tell you about a project that’s been weighing on me. A few months ago, I worked with a new business owner on her website. She was excited, I was excited, everything seemed perfect. We created her brand. Picked her colors. Wrote strategic copy that really captured her personality. And then? She changed almost everything. The logo I designed? Redone in Canva. The strategic colors? Swapped for ones she liked better. The vulnerable copy? Rewritten to be safer and more generic. When she saw the final website, she didn’t like it. Now here’s the thing. I’m not mad at her. I’m not even disappointed in her. I’m frustrated with myself for not catching the signs earlier. Because looking back? She wasn’t ready. And I should have known. Here’s what I’ve learned Some business owners aren’t ready for professional design yet. Not because they’re not good enough or smart enough. But because they’re still figuring out who they are, what they stand for, and who they serve. And when you’re in that phase? Strategic branding feels scary. Bold colors feel like too much. Vulnerable copy feels too personal. You end up undoing all the strategic work because you’re not ready to be seen that way yet. So how do you know if you’re ready? Ask yourself these questions. Can you describe your ideal client without thinking too hard? Do you know what problem you solve and why you’re the one to solve it? Have you worked with enough people to know what they need to hear from you? And here’s the big one. Are you ready to be visible as the expert you’re becoming, even if it feels uncomfortable? If you’re nodding yes, amazing. Let’s talk. If you’re hesitating? That’s your answer. And honestly? I respect that so much more than pretending you’re ready when you’re not. What to do instead Grab a strategic Showit or WordPress template. Something simple that gets you online. Work with clients. Have conversations. Build your confidence. When you’re truly ready, professional design will feel exciting instead of terrifying. And you’ll actually trust the process. So where are you? If you want to talk through it, book a call with me. We’ll figure out together if now’s the right time for a website project, or if maybe some coaching makes more sense while you get clear on everything else. No pressure. No judgment. Just an honest conversation. Sound good? And if you want to know more, listen to this week's pod. Why New Business Owners Struggle with Professional Design (And How to Avoid It) [Ep 110] You've got this, P.S. Want to have a conversation? Let's chat! |
