Your About Page: Professional Connection (Without Oversharing)

Hey Website Bestie,

Let's talk about your about page — that tricky little corner of your website where potential clients decide if you're their perfect match.

I've been having great conversations lately with corporate clients who want to seem approachable without oversharing their life stories. They ask: "How personal is too personal for my professional brand?"

It's a balancing act! Your about page is likely one of your most visited pages (yes, really!), but it doesn't have to be a choice between cold corporate robot and TMI oversharer. There's a sweet spot that builds connection while maintaining professionalism.

Here's my formula for an about page that connects without crossing boundaries:

👉 1. Start With Your Client, Not Yourself

Begin with who you help, not your bio. Instead of "I'm Jane, a coach with 10 years experience," try "You deserve a business that energizes rather than drains you. That's where I come in."

👉 2. Show What Makes You Different

What's your unique approach? For me, it's my signature 4-week website process and focus on money-making strategy. What's yours? This helps clients understand your value beyond basic credentials.

👉 3. Add Personality Without Oversharing

You don't need to reveal your deepest secrets to be relatable! Try:

  • A simple line about what you do when not working
  • A professional photo that shows warmth (not just arms crossed against a wall!)
  • A brief mention of a value that drives your work

👉 4. Include Strategic Social Proof

Let others speak to your expertise through testimonials, logos of companies you've worked with, or publications you've been featured in — this builds trust without you having to brag.

👉 5. End With Clear Direction

Your about page isn't just for introduction — it should guide visitors to the next step. Always include a call-to-action like "Ready for a website that works as hard as you do? Let's chat."

This week on the podcast, I go into creating the perfect professional-yet-personal about page!

Hey Reader!!Last month while working on two completely different websites I got to thinking about home page strategy. And how many of us might be getting that wrong. The first website was for a design-build firm specializing in luxury residential projects. The second was for Deb, a functional medicine provider who helps people increase their health span as they age. Completely different businesses, but they both came to me with the same challenge. How do you create a homepage that attracts...

Hey Reader!!Something's been on my mind since a coffee chat last month and I think you'll find this as eye-opening as I did. I met with someone whose website I'd actually discovered before we connected. It was built by a designer I follow and admire - absolutely gorgeous, creative, and the kind of site that makes you stop scrolling and think "wow." When I complimented her beautiful website and asked how it was working for her business, her response surprised me. She loves how it looks, but...

Hey Reader!!I just wrapped up a website audit that reminded me why I love these sessions so much. Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come from the simplest fixes, and that's exactly what happened with Samia from Dragoness Rising. She'd created this really well-designed website that perfectly captured her brand personality. Her navigation was clear, her services were well organized, and everything looked professional and polished. But here's the thing ...all that great design work wasn't...
