your website might be talking about the wrong version of you

Hey Reader!!

I hosted website strategy sessions a few weeks and found myself seeing the same pattern repeated.

Successful business owners. Professional websites. But something felt off. Their sites were talking about the business they had three years ago, not the one they're running today!

One action coach had a gorgeous site geared mostly about coaching. But coaching wasn't her main thing anymore. She'd discovered she loved creating community experiences, hosting events, leading women's retreats. That's where her heart was. That's where she spent most of her time.

But her homepage hero? Still positioned her as just a coach.

Another nutritionist started with one on one sessions. Her site matched that perfectly at launch. Then she fell in love with teaching kids. Cooking classes. Birthday parties. Retreats for tweens. Her business had completely evolved.

Her website hadn't kept up.

Here's what happens when there's a mismatch.

Someone hears about your services. They visit your site. But your hero section talks about something you don't do anymore. They wonder if they're in the right place. They leave to find someone whose site is clearer.

You're losing potential clients every day, not because you're not great at what you do, but because your website is creating confusion instead of clarity.

The good news? You don't need a complete redesign. Here are four updates that make the biggest impact.

πŸ‘‰ Rewrite your hero section

This is the most important update. Your hero needs to reflect what you do NOW. If your business has evolved to include multiple offerings, acknowledge that. Someone should land on your site and know within 3 seconds that they're in the right place.

πŸ‘‰ Restructure your navigation

If your new offerings aren't in your main menu, people won't find them. Keep it simple (5 items or less) but make sure those items reflect your current focus, not your original business model.

πŸ‘‰ Add internal links between offerings

Create pathways so visitors can discover everything you do. If someone can't attend your event, can they easily find your community page? Make it flow naturally.

πŸ‘‰ Update outdated copy throughout your site

Go through your services page, about page, footer. Anywhere you're still describing the old version of your business. Make sure everything aligns with who you are today.

If you only do ONE thing this week, update your hero section. That's where you'll see the biggest impact.

Your business is supposed to grow and evolve. Mine is always doing that. That's how we succeed.

Just make sure your website grows with it.

Oh and the best part of this story? Remember that nutrition coach? Well, after our strategy session she went home and completely revamped her website! It now looks and feels like what her business is today. Take a peek. I LOVE how she took action!

Hey Reader!!I'm sitting here hardly believing I'm about to type this... this week marks the 100th episode of Website Design Made Simple! But before I celebrate, I want to share the vulnerable truth about how this all started. 100 episodes ago, I was staring at an expensive camera on my desk, feeling a little bummed out. I'd bought it to make YouTube videos for my business, but every time I tried to record, I felt so uncomfortable. The pressure to look perfect, wear the right outfit, have...

Hey Reader!!I spend a lot of time analyzing websites, and I keep seeing the same pattern that's costing business owners serious money. They think they have to choose between a website that's beautiful OR one that actually gets found in Google searches. This either/or mindset is completely backwards, and here's why it's hurting your business. I see gorgeous websites that look like they belong in design museums. Perfect photography, stunning color palettes, elegant typography. But when I check...

Hey Reader!!I was scrolling through old Instagram posts a few days ago and found one that just said "Visit the Panda." It made me realize this would be perfect to share with you because it touches on something most business owners don't know about their websites. Those beautiful professional brand photos you invested in? They might actually be hurting your website's performance. Before you panic, let me explain. It's not the quality of your photography that's the problem (professional photos...
