your website traffic is down (but don’t panic)

Helllo my friend!!!

Have you been looking at your website analytics lately and noticed something weird?

Maybe your traffic is down. Maybe those Google clicks aren’t what they used to be. Maybe you’re thinking, “What did I do wrong? Is my website broken?”

Here’s what I need you to know.

It’s not you. It’s happening to everyone.

Let me explain

A few months ago, one of my clients came to me worried. Her website traffic had dropped by more than 35%.

But here’s the thing. Her business hadn’t changed at all. She was booking just as many clients. Making just as much money.

Another client? Same thing. Traffic down, but she was booking MORE discovery calls than ever.

What’s going on?

It’s called “no click searches” and it’s changing everything about how people find businesses online.

Here’s what’s happening

When someone Googles something now, they get their answer right there at the top. Google’s AI pulls information from websites and gives people what they need without them ever clicking through.

Same thing with ChatGPT, Claude, and all those AI tools everyone’s using now.

For example, I Googled “how long does sourdough need to bulk ferment” the other day (I've been really into sourdough, lol). Got my answer right at the top. Never clicked a single website.

Ten years ago? I would’ve clicked through to someone’s blog post.

That’s what’s happening to your website traffic.

But here’s why this is actually good news

The people who ARE clicking through to your website now? They’re serious.

They’re not casual browsers. They’ve already done their research. They’ve seen your name come up. They know what they’re looking for.

And they’re ready to book.

So yes, you might have fewer visitors. But the ones you’re getting are way more qualified.

Would you rather have 100 random visitors who leave after five seconds? Or 10 highly qualified visitors who read your services page and book a call?

I know which one I’d choose.

Your website content matters MORE now, not less

Here’s the thing that might sound backwards.

Even though people aren’t clicking as much, your website content is more valuable than ever.

Because where do you think Google and ChatGPT are getting their information? From websites like yours.

When someone asks ChatGPT about website design tips, it’s reading content from websites like mine. When Google creates those AI overviews, it’s pulling from actual websites.

So even if people aren’t clicking through, the AI is reading your content. And if your content is good? You’re showing up in those AI answers. Your business name gets mentioned. Your expertise gets shared.

What you should do about it

First, stop stressing about clicks. Look at your actual business results instead. Are you still getting inquiries? Still booking clients? Then you’re fine.

Second, focus on your website content. Make it helpful. Make it clear. Write for people, but also write for AI tools that are scanning it.

And if you’re a local business, keep your Google Business Profile updated. That’s showing up in search results all the time now.

Helllo my friend!!! Quick question. How many pages does your website have right now? 4? 10? 20? And how many of those pages are actually helping you get clients? If you’re like most small business owners I work with, you probably have way more pages than you need. And those extra pages? They’re making things harder, not easier. Here’s the problem When someone lands on your website, they should know who you are, what you do, and where to go next in about three seconds. (or less!) But if your...

Helllo my friend!!! So… I need to tell you about a project that’s been weighing on me. A few months ago, I worked with a new business owner on her website. She was excited, I was excited, everything seemed perfect. We created her brand. Picked her colors. Wrote strategic copy that really captured her personality. And then? She changed almost everything. The logo I designed? Redone in Canva. The strategic colors? Swapped for ones she liked better. The vulnerable copy? Rewritten to be safer and...
