join me in nov and a q about photos

Hey Reader!!
I was scrolling through old Instagram posts a few days ago and found one that just said "Visit the Panda." It made me realize this would be perfect to share with you because it touches on something most business owners don't know about their websites.

Those beautiful professional brand photos you invested in? They might actually be hurting your website's performance.

Before you panic, let me explain. It's not the quality of your photography that's the problem (professional photos are absolutely worth the investment!!). It's how they're being optimized for web use.

I see this constantly with smart business owners who have stunning brand photography but don't realize they're accidentally sabotaging their own websites. Here are the three image mistakes that could be costing you clients:

πŸ‘‰ Massive file sizes that chase visitors away

Professional photos straight from DSLR cameras can be 5+ megabytes. The ideal web size? Around 100 kilobytes. When your images are 50 times larger than they should be, visitors leave before your beautiful photography even loads.

πŸ‘‰ Generic file names Google can't understand

IMG_1234.jpg or DSC_5773.jpg tell search engines nothing about your business. Instead, use descriptive names like "relaxing-spa-massage-boston.jpg" to capture image search traffic.

πŸ‘‰ Empty alt text that fails everyone

When you skip the description box during image upload, screen readers can't help visually impaired visitors, and Google can't properly understand your content for SEO.

πŸ‘‰ The compound effect of these mistakes

Your website feels slow and sluggish, you miss out on Google Image search traffic, bounce rates increase, and you lose potential SEO opportunities.

The "panda" reference comes from TinyPNG.com, which has an adorable panda mascot and is my go-to tool for compressing images while keeping them sharp and beautiful.

Here's your weekend action plan. Focus on your most important pages first (homepage, about, services). Compress your images, rename files with descriptive keywords, and write helpful alt text that serves both accessibility and SEO.

Your professional photography should be an asset, not a liability. With proper optimization, those images become powerful tools for attracting ideal clients instead of chasing them away.

Hey Reader!!I spend a lot of time analyzing websites, and I keep seeing the same pattern that's costing business owners serious money. They think they have to choose between a website that's beautiful OR one that actually gets found in Google searches. This either/or mindset is completely backwards, and here's why it's hurting your business. I see gorgeous websites that look like they belong in design museums. Perfect photography, stunning color palettes, elegant typography. But when I check...

Hey Reader!!I've been reflecting on this past year as I prep for my 100th podcast episode (can you believe it?!), and something really struck me. After auditing over 50 websites in 2025, I can tell you exactly what separates the websites that actually make money from the ones that just look pretty. It's not the trendy color palettes, perfect typography, or fancy features that everyone obsesses over. It's something completely invisible that most business owners don't even know exists. Most of...

Hey Reader!!Can I share something I've been noticing with the incredibly smart business owners I work with? There's so much talk about imposter syndrome in our world, but I'm seeing the complete opposite problem. What happens when you're SO qualified and knowledgeable that your website actually works against you? I call it "expert overwhelm," and if you have multiple certifications, advanced degrees, or years of specialized training, you might be experiencing this without even realizing it....
