Hey Reader!! I met this woman who absolutely radiated great, positive energy. Perfect for what some of my clients might need, we had such a good conversation. As we were wrapping up, she handed me her business card with this big smile and said, "Definitely check out my website!" So I went home that afternoon, pulled up her site, and within about 8 seconds...I kind of lost interest. It felt like a completely different person than the warm, engaging woman I'd just met. This got me thinking about something we don't talk about enough. What happens after the business card handoff? When someone visits your website after meeting you at a networking event, the psychology is completely different from a random Google visitor. Here's the thing that changed my perspective. When someone meets you in person first, trust is already established. They know you as a person. Now they need to trust you as a professional. But here's where it gets tricky. The bar is actually HIGHER because they have expectations based on meeting you. They're not visiting your website to learn about you. They're looking for validation that you're as good as you seemed in person. π They want to see your personality match online. That warm, conversational person they met should feel the same on your website, not suddenly become cold and corporate. π They're verifying what you told them. If you talked about a new offer but it's not on your services page, or mentioned specific expertise but your website is generic, there's a disconnect. π They're checking recent social proof. Current testimonials and case studies that show you're still actively successful matter more than old achievements. π They're thinking about referrals. Can they easily explain what you do? Is your pricing transparent enough for their network? Does your website feel professional enough for their contacts? The most common disconnects I see are personality splits (warm person, stuffy website), services mismatches (talking about new offers that aren't reflected online), visual disconnects (outdated photos), and unclear next steps. Your action step for this week? Visit your own website like you're someone who just met you at a networking event. Does it feel like the same person? Would you refer yourself based on what you see? Hey Reader!!I've been reflecting on this past year as I prep for my 100th podcast episode (can you believe it?!), and something really struck me. After auditing over 50 websites in 2025, I can tell you exactly what separates the websites that actually make money from the ones that just look pretty. It's not the trendy color palettes, perfect typography, or fancy features that everyone obsesses over. It's something completely invisible that most business owners don't even know exists. Most of...
Hey Reader!!Can I share something I've been noticing with the incredibly smart business owners I work with? There's so much talk about imposter syndrome in our world, but I'm seeing the complete opposite problem. What happens when you're SO qualified and knowledgeable that your website actually works against you? I call it "expert overwhelm," and if you have multiple certifications, advanced degrees, or years of specialized training, you might be experiencing this without even realizing it....
Hey Reader!!I just finished a website audit that reminded me of something so many of us struggle with. We pour our hearts and souls writing amazing copy for our websites, explaining how we can help and then... crickets. Visitors just aren't converting. That's exactly what was happening with Anne from The Fun Reset. She had compelling messaging about her group coaching for ambitious women, but something wasn't right. All words, no breathing room, no visual connection. Here's what we discovered...
