the navigation mistake costing you clients

Hey Reader!!

I just wrapped up a fun website audit on the pod that reminded me why I love this work so much. Sometimes the smallest tweaks create the biggest transformations.

Joie and Mark from Comiero Mediation Services reached out because their professional, well-designed website wasn’t converting visitors into the right kinds of clients. And they felt the website wasn't showcasing their messaging properly.

Sound familiar?

After diving into their site, we discovered the culprit wasn’t their design or even their totally just their messaging. It was their navigation strategy that was creating confusion instead of clarity.

Here’s what was happening and how we fixed it:

👉 Overwhelming navigation choices —They had seven navigation items competing for attention, including unnecessary ones like “Home” and scattered resource pages. We streamlined to five focused items that guide visitors naturally toward their services and contact page.

👉 Missing strategic calls-to-action - Their homepage had one button in the hero section, then nothing until the very bottom (which actually led to a different website!). We added strategic next steps throughout every section so visitors always know where to go.

👉 Hidden social proof - Their testimonials lived on a separate page that most visitors never saw. We scattered them throughout the site where people actually make decisions about working with them.

👉 Hero section overload - Too much text was burying their value proposition. We condensed their message into two powerful sentences that immediately communicate what they do and why it matters.

The lesson here is important. Even the most beautiful websites can have conversion killers hiding in plain sight. Sometimes what looks like a design problem is actually a strategy problem.

This week, take a look at your navigation. Does every item serve a clear purpose in guiding visitors toward working with you? Can you simplify or combine anything to make the path forward more obvious?

Hey Reader!!Last month while working on two completely different websites I got to thinking about home page strategy. And how many of us might be getting that wrong. The first website was for a design-build firm specializing in luxury residential projects. The second was for Deb, a functional medicine provider who helps people increase their health span as they age. Completely different businesses, but they both came to me with the same challenge. How do you create a homepage that attracts...

Hey Reader!!Something's been on my mind since a coffee chat last month and I think you'll find this as eye-opening as I did. I met with someone whose website I'd actually discovered before we connected. It was built by a designer I follow and admire - absolutely gorgeous, creative, and the kind of site that makes you stop scrolling and think "wow." When I complimented her beautiful website and asked how it was working for her business, her response surprised me. She loves how it looks, but...

Hey Reader!!I just wrapped up a website audit that reminded me why I love these sessions so much. Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come from the simplest fixes, and that's exactly what happened with Samia from Dragoness Rising. She'd created this really well-designed website that perfectly captured her brand personality. Her navigation was clear, her services were well organized, and everything looked professional and polished. But here's the thing ...all that great design work wasn't...
