your homepage strategy might be wrong

Hey Reader!!
Last month while working on two completely different websites I got to thinking about home page strategy. And how many of us might be getting that wrong.

The first website was for a design-build firm specializing in luxury residential projects. The second was for Deb, a functional medicine provider who helps people increase their health span as they age.

Completely different businesses, but they both came to me with the same challenge. How do you create a homepage that attracts your ideal clients and repels the wrong ones?

Here's what's important to note. Even though both clients needed the same outcome, their homepage strategies needed to be completely different because their ideal clients have totally different mindsets when they land on the page.

The design-build clients are in dreaming mode, scrolling Pinterest and envisioning their perfect spaces. Deb's clients are in research mode, looking for evidence-based solutions and scientific credibility.

Same website visitor, completely different psychology.

This made me think about how most website advice treats every business like they need the same homepage recipe. This could be why your site isn't attracting those who are ready to work with you!

Here's what I've learned about tailoring your homepage to your business type...

πŸ‘‰ Service-based businesses need results-focused social proof, not just "she was great to work with" testimonials. Show transformations and specific outcomes.

πŸ‘‰ Creative businesses need emotional connection first. Lead with your best work and let people fall in love with your style before they care about your credentials.

πŸ‘‰ Local businesses need location-specific messaging and immediate trust signals. Include your service areas, years in business, and licensing information right up front.

πŸ‘‰ Product businesses need simple navigation and transparent policies. Make it easy to find what they want and remove any friction from the buying process.

The important takeaway? Your homepage has about 3 seconds to convince someone they're in the right place. If you're using generic strategies instead of approaches designed for your specific business type, you're wasting those precious seconds.

Your action step for this week? Take a screenshot of your current homepage, then look at it through the lens of your ideal client's mindset. Are you speaking to their specific psychology and decision-making process?

Hey Reader!!Something's been on my mind since a coffee chat last month and I think you'll find this as eye-opening as I did. I met with someone whose website I'd actually discovered before we connected. It was built by a designer I follow and admire - absolutely gorgeous, creative, and the kind of site that makes you stop scrolling and think "wow." When I complimented her beautiful website and asked how it was working for her business, her response surprised me. She loves how it looks, but...

Hey Reader!!I just wrapped up a website audit that reminded me why I love these sessions so much. Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come from the simplest fixes, and that's exactly what happened with Samia from Dragoness Rising. She'd created this really well-designed website that perfectly captured her brand personality. Her navigation was clear, her services were well organized, and everything looked professional and polished. But here's the thing ...all that great design work wasn't...

Hey Reader!! I recently finished working on Kerri and Erin's website for Modern Legacy Law Group, and I'm honestly bursting with excitement to share this transformation story! Not just because it's gorgeous (though it absolutely is), but because I can see Kerri's personality, warmth, and approach coming through every single element on screen. You know that feeling when you're working on a puzzle and you finally find that one missing piece that makes the whole picture suddenly clear? That's...
