Hey Reader!! The first website was for a design-build firm specializing in luxury residential projects. The second was for Deb, a functional medicine provider who helps people increase their health span as they age. Completely different businesses, but they both came to me with the same challenge. How do you create a homepage that attracts your ideal clients and repels the wrong ones? Here's what's important to note. Even though both clients needed the same outcome, their homepage strategies needed to be completely different because their ideal clients have totally different mindsets when they land on the page. The design-build clients are in dreaming mode, scrolling Pinterest and envisioning their perfect spaces. Deb's clients are in research mode, looking for evidence-based solutions and scientific credibility. Same website visitor, completely different psychology. This made me think about how most website advice treats every business like they need the same homepage recipe. This could be why your site isn't attracting those who are ready to work with you! Here's what I've learned about tailoring your homepage to your business type... π Service-based businesses need results-focused social proof, not just "she was great to work with" testimonials. Show transformations and specific outcomes. π Creative businesses need emotional connection first. Lead with your best work and let people fall in love with your style before they care about your credentials. π Local businesses need location-specific messaging and immediate trust signals. Include your service areas, years in business, and licensing information right up front. π Product businesses need simple navigation and transparent policies. Make it easy to find what they want and remove any friction from the buying process. The important takeaway? Your homepage has about 3 seconds to convince someone they're in the right place. If you're using generic strategies instead of approaches designed for your specific business type, you're wasting those precious seconds. Your action step for this week? Take a screenshot of your current homepage, then look at it through the lens of your ideal client's mindset. Are you speaking to their specific psychology and decision-making process? Hey Reader!!I spend a lot of time analyzing websites, and I keep seeing the same pattern that's costing business owners serious money. They think they have to choose between a website that's beautiful OR one that actually gets found in Google searches. This either/or mindset is completely backwards, and here's why it's hurting your business. I see gorgeous websites that look like they belong in design museums. Perfect photography, stunning color palettes, elegant typography. But when I check...
Hey Reader!!I was scrolling through old Instagram posts a few days ago and found one that just said "Visit the Panda." It made me realize this would be perfect to share with you because it touches on something most business owners don't know about their websites. Those beautiful professional brand photos you invested in? They might actually be hurting your website's performance. Before you panic, let me explain. It's not the quality of your photography that's the problem (professional photos...
Hey Reader!!I've been reflecting on this past year as I prep for my 100th podcast episode (can you believe it?!), and something really struck me. After auditing over 50 websites in 2025, I can tell you exactly what separates the websites that actually make money from the ones that just look pretty. It's not the trendy color palettes, perfect typography, or fancy features that everyone obsesses over. It's something completely invisible that most business owners don't even know exists. Most of...
